As 2024 draws to a close we want to say a big thank you for all the amazing support we have had recently from a number of different fundraisers!
The Chester marathon
The Chester marathon took place on the 6th October and we were absolutely delighted to have Faron offer to run for us. Faron works at the Countess of Chester hospital and through his work, he’s seen the consequences of poor mental health on people’s lives every day. As a result, he was keen to offer support to us as a local charity that’s working hard to help teens and young adults in his local area with their mental wellbeing.
So he got in touch with us to ask whether he could support us. Having taken up cycling and running to get fit and improve his own mental health, he’d previously set himself the goal to do the Chester 10k, then the half marathon. And he then decided to go for the triple – doing the full marathon and helping Platform for Life at the same time!
Despite the rain, he finished the marathon in a very impressive 4 hours and 15 minutes…and has already been in touch about his next event! Watch this space…
The Delamere Half Marathon
We were also hugely grateful when Emily got in touch with us – with another amazing offer to run for us. Emily knows of Platform for Life through her work at Bridge Foyer and we’re a charity that she’s particularly passionate about.
She explains “As a support worker, I have seen first-hand the difference that the counsellors can make, specifically to the young people living in supported accommodation at Bridge Foyer in Chester.
“The dedicated counsellors provide weekly, one-to-one sessions with young people, giving them a safe space to talk, offload and really be heard. This regular, person-centred support is something that a lot of the young people at Bridge Foyer have never had access to before. It is invaluable in supporting their mental health and is a part of the puzzle in helping them move forward in their journey.
“On a personal level, each of us has navigated challenges with our own mental health and we know how important it is having someone trustworthy to talk to during these dark times. That’s why Platform for Life is so invaluable to our community, to be a sounding board and someone to help navigate negative emotions.”
Along with her friends Beth and Faye, Emily took part in the run on Sunday 3rd November – a big thank you to them all.
And finally...
We must also say a few more big Thank You’s. First of all, to the University of Chester’s Pole Fitness team who made us their Charity of the Year and held a bake sale to raise much needed funds.
And thank you to Sykes Holiday Cottages for raising money for us on World Mental Health Day with their Virtual Duck race!
And the year has finished with many different supporters getting involved with our Christmas fundraising marathon at the start of December. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes. Thank you to the people who stood in the rain with collection buckets. Thank you to the businesses who held various events, raffles, and cake sales on the 5th December. And thank you to our two trustees, Alan and Ian, who managed to complete 12 laps of Chester Walls on their sponsored walk!
And a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to support all these events and people.
You are all amazing and your support means the world.
