Why do we URGENTLY need your support here at Platform For Life?
The world has changed significantly for many of us in recent years, following on from the COVID-19 pandemic. Just some of the post-pandemic changes we are seeing include:
- A significant increase in the number of people affected by poor mental health and an increase in the complexity of mental health issues
- An increased support need for the children and young people who have a 3-year gap in their critical development stages, when the world had to stop for COVID-19
- An increase in people struggling with anxiety and a lack of direction and guidance in their life, due to a lack of, or delay in, early intervention support. (During the pandemic, people continued to go through significant life events and changes. Events including the birth of a first baby, traumas including pregnancy loss or the death of a loved one, additional health needs, such as a cancer diagnosis kept occurring, despite the pandemic. Frequently however, those going through these events, changes and traumas experienced delays or significant gaps in their personal and professional key support as a result of COVID-19.)
- The cost of living has increased significantly across all areas, but particularly in essential areas including the cost of housing (rental and mortgages), the cost of fuel and utilities (at home and for transport) and the cost of food
These changes mean that there is:
- An increased need for mental health service provision across all ages and stages
- An increased need for support for children and young people to help them catch up and bridge the gap in their development
- An increased need for family support with guidance and signposting to support with wider issues such as housing and financial worries
- An increased need for guidance and referral options for frontline professionals such as teachers, GPs and wellbeing support workers, who are trying to support increasingly complex family issues beyond their remit and training
But:
- Due to the increased cost of living, there is less financial resource available to pay for support services to meet these needs
And as a result:
- Public and health services are over stretched and unable to meet the need
- There is less funding available, and increased competition for grants, trusts and government funding to enable the charity sector and other support organisations to fill the support gaps with affordable provision
So:
- WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
If you can, in any way, support us, to enable us to help fill the gaps with vital support provision, for the families in Chester, who are eligible for our services and currently struggling with poor mental health, but are stuck on an impossible waiting list, have slipped through the net for public services and can’t afford to pay for private help, we would be so incredibly grateful!
Whether you are an individual, or a business, or you’d like to volunteer your time, or support us with one of our Platform For Life campaigns, there are so many ways you can help, ways you may not even have thought of!
