Volunteering Your Time

Platform for life work with a variety of needs and without the service, there would be a huge gap in the mental health support we can offer in school. The counsellors are great and work within school very well.

Volunteer your time

What is volunteering?

Volunteering is donating your time, unpaid, to do something which benefits others. Many charities, not for profit organisations and projects for good causes have volunteering opportunities available.

Why is volunteering important?

Volunteers are a lifeline for most charities. At Platform For Life, we really appreciate and value the time and help we receive from volunteers to support our charity and the work we are doing. Volunteers help make our service even more accessible to our clients and have a positive impact on local people’s lives. From helping local families alongside our team in the community, to providing support and adding skills to our operations team in the office, our wonderful volunteers make a big difference to what we do.

Reasons for volunteering

There are all kinds of reasons to volunteer your time with Platform for Life. It could enable you to:

  • Share your professional expertise and/or personal experiences to help the team and the people we support
  • Learn new skills, receive training and progress your own personal development
  • Meet new like-minded people
  • Make a positive difference to the community that you live in the community that is close to your heart
  • Support a cause that is important to you

Support other people after receiving support from Platform For Life yourself and progress your journey

Volunteering at Platform for Life

At Platform for Life, we can offer a range of different volunteering opportunities and we can tailor the volunteering opportunities you’re interested in to fit the amount of time you can give. All our volunteers attend a full induction and are provided with appropriate training.

We have the option of two teams you can volunteer with, our Family Support Team and our Operations Team. You can also apply to volunteer as a trustee when opportunities arise.

Family Support Team

Family Support Volunteers are vital to the work we do. Volunteering within our Family Support Team, you would help clients in the community (we don’t support in the home) with practical needs and removing barriers to accessing our counselling service.  You would support clients with a range of tasks, from enabling them to use public transport, to accompanying them to local social groups for the first time, to help build their confidence, or your help might also be assisting in completing important forms. This volunteering opportunity also helps facilitate our weekly Wellbeing Drop-ins.

Every one of our clients has different needs. As such, volunteering with this team at Platform for Life is a varied and rewarding experience. You would be making a direct difference to people’s lives. Please keep an eye on our current volunteering opportunities on the tab above or you can contact us for more information on volunteering with our Family Support Team.
