Mia is a 16-year-old girl suffering with anxiety. She used the self-referral option to contact our service and began sessions in school.
She is a young carer for her mum, although home life is happy and is not the source of her worries. Mia was feeling under pressure at school with exam stress and struggling with friendships. Counselling sessions gave her the opportunity to explore the meaning and roots of her anxiety and how it was affecting her. The chance to talk openly about this lifted her mood and she was able to see more clearly and past the need for a reason for having these feelings.
Through discussion and reflection, Mia came to better understand the relationships she has and how these were affecting her. She felt she had always tried to please others, but in this her own confidence had been affected and her self-worth diminished. She was able to identify that she had allowed others to take advantage of her and that she remained passive to maintain friendships.
As a result of her work with our counsellor, Mia has more self-belief and feels more at ease with life and content in her own skin. She has formed more positive relationships and worked out how to cope with negativity from others. Overall, she feels much happier, stronger and more positive about the future.
