Job and Freelance Opportunities
As a growing charity we employ a small, highly committed team made up of full and part-time employed and freelance team members. Our roles are split between our family support team of Counsellors, Art Therapists, Play Therapists and Family Support Workers and our Operations Team who run all our day-to-day operations of the charity, covering our office and clinical administration, marketing, volunteer management, finance and fundraising, HR and all other functions. You can find our current Job and Freelance vacancies on our Jobs Page.
Student Placement
Every year, Platform for Life offers a small number of student placement opportunities for student counsellors and therapists. You can find our current student placement vacancies on our Jobs Page.
Why come to us for your placement?
- You will work with a diverse range of clients giving you the opportunity to support people with different mental health challenges and to quickly get lots of practical experience. Your client load will be appropriate to your level of experience.
- You’ll be supported and closely supervised by our Clinical Lead to help nurture your skills and confidence.
- We follow BACP guidelines on managing placements to ensure our students have an excellent training experience which is safe, conducted ethically and focuses on sound practice without using students as an additional resource that replaces established professional roles. Once qualified students are then paid sessional rates whilst continuing to work with any clients to complete their therapy.
- Thanks to the fact that we’re a small charity, you’ll be part of the team from day one and made to feel welcome. We know from feedback that we offer a great environment to be part of and to learn in.
If you would like to find out more about these opportunities, please contact us directly through our contact page. Please note there is considerable competition for these opportunities, so it is worth contacting us well in advance of your required placement start time.
Volunteering Opportunities
With a small team, volunteers are a much-appreciated lifeline for Platform for Life. We are incredibly grateful to anyone who generously chooses to give their time to support the work that we do. Our wonderful team of volunteers is growing all the time. Volunteering opportunities with Platform For Life could be with our:

What can I expect if I join the team at Platform For Life?
- DBS Check/Enhanced DBS Check – Prior to joining the Platform for Life team, whether as an employee, freelance team member, placement student, volunteer or trustee you must undertake a DBS check, due to the nature of the work we do. The level of the DBS check is determined by the role you will be carrying out. Your DBS check will only be carried out at the point of offer. (Platform For Life oversees and pays for all DBS Checks).
- Training and development – When you join Platform for Life, whether as an employee, freelance team member, placement student, volunteer or trustee, you’ll receive a tailored induction and training for your role. The induction will introduce you to the charity, the team, your role and our policies and procedures. The training will include our required online and face to face compulsory core training, and any role specific training you need. In addition to core training, we encourage all team members to undertake regular CPD. We offer regular CPD training for counsellors/therapists and can provide a certificate of attendance for CPD hours needed for other professional bodies and chartered institutes.
- Flexibility – At Platform for Life, we pride ourselves on providing an inclusive and flexible culture for all our team, no matter what role you are undertaking with us. This could mean flexible hours to suit you around the core hours required for your role, or the opportunity to work in a hybrid or remote pattern, depending on the role you are carrying out.
- Supportive environment – We positively encourage a supportive environment in our workplace, whether this be within the team and peer support, or support from your manager towards your professional or personal development. Our employed clinical team members have Supervision paid for by Platform for Life, and the Freelance members of our team receive free Supervision from our qualified and experienced Clinical Lead. All team members have regular one-to-one reviews with their line manager to identify areas of need and development, as well as recognition for the work they do. Equally as important, if you are having a bad day, the team is there for you, even if that just means we make you a cup of tea and provide a listening ear.
- Opportunities to develop – We are a small team with a fairly flat structure, so promotion opportunities are limited, but we are always looking at ways for our team to develop rewarded additional skills, and responsibilities, when the opportunities arise.
- And finally…. joining the team at Platform for Life, in any role, you are guaranteed a warm welcome, and not just on your first day!
