We are so grateful for the fantastic volunteers who offer their time to support the vital service we provide at Platform for Life. We’d like to tell you about the work of one of our amazing volunteers, Cathy.

Cathy heard about Platform for Life from friends who were linked to our charity. That inspired her to get in touch with us to become a volunteer within our Family Support team. Cathy’s background as a teacher had given her vital skills which she was keen to use to support our charity and our clients.
What has Cathy been involved in?
Cathy’s main role at Platform for Life has been to facilitate our weekly wellbeing drop-in group alongside our Family Support Worker. The group is a safe space for people in the local community to come and connect with others. We offer unstructured sessions each week, where anyone who attends can meet, share, and connect with other people in their community.
A warm and welcoming individual, Cathy brings a positive and engaging energy to the wellbeing drop-in. As part of her role there, she lends a listening ear to those who attend, engages in conversation – and makes an exceptional cup of tea! Without Cathy and her continued support, the drop-in would not be what it is today.
One of our clients who regularly attends the drop-in felt they needed further practical support. They got on well with Cathy, having met up with her each week at the drop-in. As a result, Cathy volunteered to offer one-to-one support to this client. As part of that one-to-one support, she assisted our client with attending new social groups and getting involved with activities that they’d felt unable to do alone. Cathy also helped them with tasks like completing forms. This type of volunteer work is vital for our clients who would otherwise feel unable to do these things on their own.
Cathy continues to volunteer at our weekly drop-in and has also volunteered to support us with some exciting upcoming projects and events (including the Grosvenor’s Eaton Estate Charity Garden Open Day that we’re hosting on the 24th August!). Cathy has become a key member of our volunteer team, and we appreciate the ongoing support she offers to our charity and to our clients.
